Chain Roller Shades in Austin, TX

Chain roller shades use a continuous bead-chain loop on one side to raise and lower the shade. It's the most common roller shade control: simple, reliable, and easy on large or heavy shades.

For safety, the chain is secured to the wall or frame with a tension device so it stays taut and out of reach.

How chain roller shades work

A continuous bead-chain loop runs through a clutch on one side of the roller. Pull one side of the loop and the shade goes up; pull the other and it comes down. The clutch holds the shade at any height.

Every chain we install is anchored with a tension device fastened to the wall or window frame. That keeps the loop taut and meets current window covering safety standards.

Why we recommend them in Central Texas

Chain control is the dependable workhorse of roller shades. It handles wide and heavy shades easily, it's simple to repair, and it costs less than motorization, which makes it the go-to for offices, rentals, and large window runs.

For homes with very young children, we'll usually steer you toward cordless or motorized instead.

Benefits

What you get with custom chain roller shades from ATX Blinds & Draperies.

Handles big shades

The clutch gives smooth control even on wide, heavy shades that would be hard to lift by hand.

Budget friendly

Chain shades are the most affordable roller shade lift system.

Precise stopping

Stop the shade at any height and it stays there.

Easy to service

Clutches and chains are simple to adjust or replace years down the road.

Best for

  • Large or wide windows
  • Commercial spaces and offices
  • Budget-conscious projects
  • Shades that get raised and lowered often

Options

  • Plastic or stainless steel chain
  • Left or right side control
  • Any roller shade fabric
  • Optional fascia or cassette

Good to know

  • The chain hangs at the side of the window, which some people find less clean looking than cordless or motorized.
  • Even with a tension device, chains aren't our first pick for nurseries and young kids' rooms.

What affects the price

  • Size of each window (wider and taller costs more)
  • Fabric or material you choose
  • Lift system: chain, cordless, or motorized
  • Mounting hardware, cassettes, or tracks
  • Number of windows (larger orders often price better per window)
  • Specialty shapes and hard-to-reach installs

Our process

Consultations are available seven days a week.

  1. Free consultation

We come to you with samples and look at every window, how it faces, and how the room is used.

  2. Measure & quote

We measure every window precisely and send a written quote within 24 hours.

  3. Professional install

We install, test, and clean up. Products are covered by manufacturer warranties.

Care & maintenance

A few minutes now and then keeps them looking new.

Dusting

Dust every few weeks with a microfiber cloth, a feather duster, or the soft brush on your vacuum set to low suction. Regular dusting keeps buildup from settling into the weave.

Spot cleaning

Blot small marks with a soft cloth dampened with water and a little mild soap. Blot, don't rub, and let the fabric dry fully before you raise the shade.

Everyday use

Raise and lower the shade with the chain, bottom bar, or motor, never by pulling on the fabric. If it starts rolling unevenly, call us and we'll adjust it.

Chain roller shades: common questions

Have another question? Call (512) 751-8408.

Are chain shades safe with kids?

We install every chain with a tension device that keeps the loop taut against the wall. For homes with young children, cordless or motorized shades remove the chain entirely.

Can I choose which side the chain is on?

Yes. We set the chain on whichever side is easiest to reach, often away from furniture or toward the room.

Plastic or stainless steel chain?

Plastic is quiet and standard. Stainless steel lasts a long time and looks sharp on commercial and modern installs.

Can chain shades be converted to motorized later?

Often, yes, depending on the shade system. Ask us before ordering if you think you'll want to upgrade.
